PHUSE EU Connect 2025: A Look Back at an Inspiring Week in Hamburg

From November 16–19, 2025, the clinical data science community gathered in Hamburg, Germany, for PHUSE EU Connect 2025, an event that once again delivered an exceptional combination of scientific exchange, forward-thinking discussions, and collaborative energy. This year’s conference brought together professionals working across clinical development, statistical programming, data strategy, and AI and ML, all united by the shared goal of driving the next wave of innovation in clinical research.

Throughout the week, conversations centered on the future of clinical data, how we manage it, analyze it, verify it, and ultimately use it to support safer and more efficient trials. Attendees explored topics such as data transparency initiatives, regulatory expectations, technical challenges in data submission, and the rapidly expanding role of artificial intelligence and machine learning within the life sciences. PHUSE EU Connect once again demonstrated why it remains one of the most influential gatherings in our industry, it creates a space where technical expertise meets strategic insight, and where collaboration across functions truly pushes the field forward.

Intego Clinical’s Contributions

Intego Clinical was proud to contribute to this year’s agenda with two presentations, both of which sparked meaningful discussions and highlighted important trends in how our industry approaches quality, technology, and talent development.

The first session, “Detecting Local Error in Clinical Programming by Applying ChatGPT,” was presented by Illia Sklyar, Senior Statistical Programmer. Illia explored how generative AI models, particularly ChatGPT, can support the detection of local programming errors. His presentation illustrated practical use cases, examined the reliability of AI-assisted review, and addressed model limitations and validation considerations. The audience was especially engaged by the potential for AI to complement traditional QC processes and help streamline review cycles without compromising the rigor required in regulated environments.

Our second presentation, “Beyond the Code: Evolving from Clinical Programmer to Strategic Partner in Clinical Trials,” was delivered by Anastasiia Khoba. Her talk focused on the expanding responsibilities of clinical programmers, emphasizing the importance of strategic thinking, communication skills, and cross-functional collaboration. Anastasiia highlighted how programmers increasingly contribute not only through technical execution but through proactive involvement in decision-making, protocol interpretation, and data strategy. The presentation resonated strongly with professionals at all career stages and sparked thoughtful conversations about the future of career progression within CROs.

A Memorable Week in Hamburg

Hamburg provided a stunning backdrop for the conference, a city that blends historic charm with a modern, forward-looking spirit. The November light over the harbor, the architectural presence of the Elbphilharmonie, and the vibrant atmosphere around the canals all contributed to an inspiring setting for a week dedicated to innovation. Many attendees noted how the city’s natural balance between tradition and progress felt especially fitting for an event centered on the evolving world of clinical data science.

The Yo-Yos That Stole the Show

One unexpected highlight at our booth was the enthusiastic response to our Intego Clinical yo-yos, which have become something of a tradition for us. What began as a small giveaway quickly turned into a catalyst for conversation. Attendees returned to the booth asking specifically for them, and several spontaneous yo-yo trick demonstrations drew amused crowds and created a warm, nostalgic energy throughout the week. It was a reminder that even at the most technical and data-heavy conferences, simple moments of fun can spark genuine connection and help build relationships that continue long after the event ends.

Looking Ahead

PHUSE EU Connect 2025 was a week filled with ideas, meaningful exchanges, and renewed motivation for the future of clinical research. We left Hamburg inspired by the expertise shared, the collaborations formed, and the momentum gained across all areas of statistical programming and data science. We are grateful to everyone who attended our presentations, visited our booth, or stopped by for a conversation, and of course, to everyone who walked away with one of our now-famous yo-yos.

As we look ahead to the coming year, Intego Clinical remains deeply committed to supporting innovation, advancing quality, and contributing to the growth of our global community. The dialogue started in Hamburg continues to guide our work, and we are already excited for what lies ahead.

Until next time, auf Wiedersehen, Hamburg, and see you in Scotland.
