The Journey from Applied Mathematics to Statistical Programmer

On Monday, our client’s engineer, Viktoriia, spoke at the PharmaSUG 2016 conference being held in Denver, CO.  Her speech, which was given at 8:30am, focused on how recent graduates with no solid work experience in IT, could start their professional careers in the Clinical Research Industry.

Viktoriia paid specific attention to the path of the student and their journey through the internship period, the company’s hiring process, and eventually the professional career as a statistical programmer.

Vika’s Journey to Statistical Programming

As a student, whose studies were in the field of applied mathematics, Viktoriia had a high interest in the pharmaceutical industry.  Applying to the Clinical SAS University Program in 2013 was somewhat of a risk though, as it was a new class with no indication of the success rate.  Her and fellow classmates entered the program without fully understanding the benefits of pursuing such a field.  Their decision to join the class, however, turned out to be the right decision.
